Optional Medical Insurance Plan for Local Students

While students may use the FREE GENERAL CONSULTATIONS AND MEDICATIONS OF THE CAMPUS CLINIC, they might need other medical services such as hospitalization in some circumstances. The University has an Optional Medical Insurance Plan for Local Students for registered full-time local students to join on a voluntary basis.

Coverage

a)

This is an OPTIONAL plan that registered full-time local students may join on a VOLUNTARY basis.

 

b)

The policy year is from 1 September 2020 to 30 June 2021.

 

c)

The plan covers 24 hours world-wide.

 

d)

Coverage continues to the expiry date on 30 June of the policy year even if student ceases to be a registered student.

 

e)

Emergency medical evacuation and repatriation benefits are provided with unlimited cover.

Insurance Fee

Eligible local students may join the Optional Medical Insurance Plan in Fall Semester or Spring Semester (for students admitted in Spring semester only). The insurance fees are as follows:

 

a)

HK$181.12 for joining in Fall Semester

 

-

covers a 10-month period from 1 September of the current year to 30 June of the ensuing year.

 

b)

HK$89.66 for joining in Spring Semester

 

-

covers a 5-month period from 1 February to 30 June. 

 

* Fees paid are non-refundable

Application and Claim Procedure

a)

Enrolment Form should be sent to the "Jardine Lloyd Thompson Limited" directly within 45 days from 1 September/ 1 February respectively for enrolment. Enquiries should also be made to the company. Applicants are required to attach a copy of HKUST Student ID Card as well as proof of tuition fee payment for the academic year to be covered.

 

b)

The insurance company will send the insurance documents to students enrolled for the scheme.

 

c)

Please click here to download the hospitalization & surgical claim form and click here to download the outpatient claim form. To submit a claim, completed claim form, together with original medical bills and referral letter (if applicable) should be mailed to the insurance company directly within 90 days after discharge from hospital/ clinical visit.

 

d)

If the insured student is holding another insurance policy and the incurred medical expenses could not be fully reimbursed by the other policy, he/she may claim for the balance from this policy by providing original receipts and proof of claim payment from the other insurance policy.
