Admission

HKUST offers scholarships for both local and non-local entrants. Details of eligibility and application procedures for the coming academic year (2019/20 cohort) are as follows:

Scholarships for ALL Entrants
University Admission Scholarship Scheme for IB Diploma Holders

IB Diploma candidates/holders who have completed the IB Diploma requirements before September 2019 will be considered for the Scholarship. Students with IB Total Points (including Bonus Points) 36 or above will be awarded with the scholarship. Details are as follows:

Students do not have to apply for the Scholarship. All IB Diploma candidates/holders are automatically considered for the awards based on their verified IB Total Points. The University will select qualified students and inform the selected students of the scholarship awards in due course.

University Admission Scholarship Scheme for GCEAL/ International AL Qualification Holders

Candidates who are admitted with GCEAL/ International AL qualifications and attained A* in at least 3 AL subjects will be considered for the Scholarship. Details are as follows:

Scholarship Scheme for International/Asian Olympiad Gold Medalists

The University sets up the Scholarship Scheme to honour outstanding International/Asian Olympiad Gold Medalists. Details are as follows:

Sports Scholarships

Supported by the HKUST Alumni Endowment Fund, the University honors student athletes with outstanding achievements in sports - not just because you hit the finish line first or scored the winning goal - but because sports have helped you to grow into a strong leader and you can make great potential contributions to our university. Each successful applicant can receive a scholarship up to HKD30,000 p.a. renewable for normative duration of study. Application closes on 15 Nov 2018 for Early Round; 7 Jan 2019 for Main Round and 31 Mar 2019 for JUPAS Round.

Scholarship for Local Entrants
JUPAS Scholarships

JUPAS students attaining Level 5** in 1 Category A subject or above in one single sitting of HKDSE will be eligible for JUPAS Scholarships. The JUPAS Scholarships range from HKD5,000 (+School top-up1) to a full scholarship of "Full tuition fee plus living allowance of HKD50,000" p.a., renewable for normative duration of study. Details are as follows:

Students do not have to apply for JUPAS Scholarships. The University will identify qualified JUPAS entrants and inform selected students of the scholarship awards in due course.
 

Remarks:

  1. Top-up scholarships may be offered by Schools/Program Office provided that the maximum limit of "Full Tuition Fee + HKD50,000 allowance" p.a. is not exceeded.

  2. The subjects refer to the senior secondary subjects in Category A.    

  3. The results of Mathematics Extended Module 1 (Calculus & Statistics) & Mathematics Extended Module 2 (Algebra & Calculus) are also counted as independent subjects in the subject requirement of the Scholarship Scheme.

  4. The results of Applied Learning subjects (Category B) and Other Language subjects (Category C) are not considered in the scholarship scheme.    

  5. Only HKDSE results in one single sitting is considered.

WISE (Women in Science & Engineering) Scholarships

With support from the dedicated donors, WISE Scholarships was set up in 2012/13 to encourage top caliber female students among the JUPAS pool to join our School of Science, School of Engineering or Interdisciplinary Programs Office. Female students with strong interests in science or engineering who obtain Level 5** in at least 1 Category A subject are eligible to be considered. On top of academic strengths, WISE Scholars are expected to demonstrate non-academic talents, achievements in science and technology competitions, and good interview performance.

 

For 2019/20 intake, each awardee can receive the Scholarship ranging from a one-off award at HKD10,000 to a renewable award at HKD20,000 p.a. in addition to her entitlement of the University’s JUPAS Scholarship Scheme. The number of awardees will vary from year to year depending on the academic and non-academic merits of the eligible candidates, as well as the available funding.

Direct Entry Scholarships

Outstanding local Direct Entry students will be considered for Direct Entry Scholarships. Scholarships are awarded to top students from all backgrounds based on academic merit. Students do not have to apply for Direct Entry scholarships. In general, the University will select qualified Direct Entry students and grant the scholarship awards together with admission offers.

Non-Academic Scholarships

To encourage students to follow their passion and be fully engaged in meaningful non-academic endeavors, HKUST has established the following scholarship schemes since 2014/15. Application closes on 15 Nov 2018 for Early Round; 7 Jan 2019 for Main Round and 31 Mar 2019 for JUPAS Round.

 

The Innovation, Creativity & Entrepreneurship (ICE) Scholarship recognizes students' achievements in the areas of innovation and entrepreneurship, and demonstration of originality and creativity.

 

The Community Leadership & Engagement (COLE) Scholarship acknowledges students' contributions to local and/or global communities and social leaderships.

Scholarship for Non-local Entrants
University Admission Scholarship Scheme for Non-local Students

HKUST is committed to supporting outstanding non-local students who choose to pursue their higher education with us. Scholarships are awarded to top students from all backgrounds based on academic merit.

Students do not have to apply for the scholarship. Every non-local student who apply for admission to HKUST in September 2019 is eligible for consideration for the scholarship. In general, the University will select qualified students and grant the scholarship awards together with admission offers.

Mainland JEE Top Scorer Scheme

Top scorers in Joint Entrance Examination for Universities in PRC (JEE) will be considered for the scholarship. Each scholarship is equivalent to Full Tuition Fee plus allowance of HKD50,000 per academic year, renewable for the normal duration of study subject to satisfactory academic performance.

 

Students do not have to apply for the Scheme.  The University will select qualified students and grant the scholarship awards together with admission offers.
